Feargal was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in February 2008, having served as Chief Operations Officer since joining WRI in 2002. While he began his career as a highly-talented numbers guy, we’re also very fortunate that he brings to the table a wealth of strategic and operational expertise.
He likes to relax on weekends at his holiday home on the East Coast of Ireland where he also tries (in vain) to improve his cycling race time.
Prior to joining WRI, Feargal was responsible for financial planning and analysis at Baltimore Technologies, and previously held the position of Financial Analyst at Pfizer Inc. in New York.
In additional to his significant work experience, Feargal also holds a load of impressive academic qualifications including an MSc in Investment & Treasury from Dublin City University and a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Galway. He is also a graduate of the Leadership 4 Growth Management Program at Stanford GSB, an Associate of the Society of Investment Analysts in Ireland, and a member of the CFA Institute.
Mari joined the Group in May 2007 and is the Chief Financial Officer. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland having trained and qualified in Arthur Andersen in Dublin.
Not only is Mari our resident financial and legal guru, she’s a passionate supporter of her home county Cork’s teams and possesses a keen interest in Irish history and politics.
Prior to joining the Group, she was Finance Director of Sherry FitzGerald Group, Ireland’s largest real estate advisory company and previously worked at Bear Stearns Bank plc.
She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork and Masters of Accounting from University College Dublin. She completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2006 and was appointed to the Board in July 2007.
John joined the group as Chief Technology Officer in June 2010. He’s also led the Property Supply Team since January 2011 and somewhere in between all that, he still finds the time to promote his local rugby club and search for his (many) lost golf balls in the rough.
Prior to joining WRI, John held the role of Head of Technology at Paddy Power Bookmakers plc for the previous ten years. He also worked in New York as Technology Operations Manager for Lehman Brothers and was also responsible for the implementation of a newly developed trading platform (OptiMark) onto the Nasdaq Stock exchange in 1999.
John originally qualified as an Electronic Engineer in University College Galway (UCG) in 1986 and subsequently also achieved a post-graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis from UCG in 1992.
David joined the Group as Chief Revenue Officer following the acquisition of Hostelbookers.com by WRI in August 2013. David was Chief Operating Officer at HostelBookers for 9 years since its launch in 2004.
Originally hailing from Essex, England with a distinct (and kinda funny) accent to prove it, David also has a daunting, stellar record in the Premier Fantasy Football League.
He brings a wealth of experience in ecommerce and the travel industry having spent many years in sales & marketing roles in various London hotels and later became involved in several online start-up ventures prior to his work with HostelBookers.
Mats joined WRI as Chief Marketing Officer in August 2013 following the acquisition of HostelBookers, where he held the role as Director of Ecommerce for over 4 years.
Originally from Sweden, he is a voracious sports fan with an admirable loyalty for his national ice hockey team - despite their record (we love to wind him up about this).
Prior to joining HostelBookers he worked as an Associate Manager for Google in Dublin managing the team selling Google advertising products to Tier 1-3 advertisers in the Nordic region. Prior to his role at Google he held various marketing and sales roles with Dell for almost 5 years with the most recent role being Online Business Manager for EMEA.
In 2003 Mats graduated from Lund's University with a Masters in eBusiness Management.
